Walking into a dispensary for the first time can feel unfamiliar, especially if you’re up visiting Flathead Lake or new to the Bigfork area. Here’s how it goes, start to finish.
Bring a valid ID
Bring a valid, unexpired government-issued ID. Adult-use customers must be 21 or older; registered medical cardholders can also buy with their card. Accepted IDs include driver’s licenses, state or tribal ID cards, passports, and U.S. military IDs.
Come in and look around
Once your ID is checked, browse at your own pace. Dispensary menus typically include categories like flower, pre-rolls, edibles, vapes, concentrates, tinctures, and topicals. If it’s your first time, just say so.
Tell us what you’re after
You don’t need to know strain names or terpenes. Just tell us what you want: something to relax, something for daytime, something mild if your tolerance is low, something for sleep. We’ll point you to options that fit.
Start low
Especially with edibles, Montana’s Department of Revenue suggests starting low (2.5 to 5 mg of THC) and waiting at least 90 minutes before taking more; the CDC notes edibles can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect. With inhaled products, effects come on within minutes, so take one small amount and wait before having more. Effects vary by person and product.
Ask before you check out
Before you check out, ask any questions you have about price, potency, or serving size. That’s the whole process.
