Terpenes are why two flowers with the same THC feel different. The main ones, their smells, and what they do.

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its smell and flavor. They’re also in pine trees, citrus peels, lavender, and black pepper. In cannabis, they do more than smell good, they help shape how the experience feels.
THC is the main driver of intoxication, but terpenes shape its character. Two flowers with similar THC can feel noticeably different because of their terpene profiles, which is why a lot of regular consumers pay attention to more than the number on the label. (General information, not medical advice.)
The common ones
Myrcene. Earthy, musky, herbal, sometimes clove or ripe mango. Often linked to relaxing, heavier body effects.
Limonene. Bright citrus. Commonly associated with uplifting, mood-elevating effects.
Caryophyllene. Spicy, peppery, woody. Unusual in that it can interact with CB2 receptors; often described as grounding.
Pinene. Pine, rosemary, fresh forest. Associated with alertness and clarity.
Linalool. Floral, lavender. Frequently connected with calm, an evening pick for many.
Humulene. Earthy, woody, hoppy. Often alongside caryophyllene; described as clear and functional.
Research on how terpenes affect people is still limited, so the descriptions above are common associations, not proven effects, and everyone responds differently. Still, paying attention to aroma and dominant terpenes can help you find flower you like, whether that’s for a day on the lake or a quiet night at home.
